Athletes of the Week
James Paul
Baseball
James Paul (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-8, 165, Paynesville, Minn. / Paynesville HS) led the Wolves batters with a .542 average in their 1-5 week this week.  He went 13-24 with five RBI, two doubles, and four runs scored with a .625 slugging percentage and a .577 on-base percentage (1.202 OPS).  The senior also earned two walks and was a perfect 2-2 on stolen base attempts.


Ashley Gabler
Softball
Ashley Gabler (OF, So., Minnetonka, Minn./Benilde-St. Margarets HS) led the Wolves with a .357 batting average in six conference games this week.  After struggling in two home games on Wednesday, Gabler bounced back to go 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate for the Wolves in their four-game road trip and racked up a .600 on base percentage.  The sophomore drilled her second home run of the season in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against 24th ranked Minnesota State, Mankato, breaking up the Mavericks’ shut-out bid in the process.

Mission Statement
The mission statement of the NSU SAAC is to support and enhance the experience of student-athletes by providing opportunities, protecting student-athlete welfare, and promoting a positive student-athlete image.

SAAC Goals
The goals of the Northern State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee shall be:

1. To foster attitude of service to fellow student-athletes and the campus community

2. To promote the person growth of student-athlete

3. To encourage volunteering and community involvement

4. To provide a voice for student-athletes within the athletic department and the NCAA

Membership

  • Any student-athlete is eligible for membership
  • Student athletes may apply for membership at any time
  • Academic eligibility must be maintained. If a member becomes academically ineligible, he/she will be replaced.
  • There will be no term limit to membership.
  • There will be at least two voting members form each sport.
  • Diversity will be encouraged with each team asked to have one upperclassman and one underclassman.
  • Each member will serve as liaison between the committee and the individual team.
  • Each team must be represented at each monthly meeting (by member of alternate)
    a. Excused absences include: class, game, practice and/or required study hall.
    b. Upon receiving two unexcused absences in a year, members shall be suspended from membership for the remainder of that semester. Membership shall be re-established the following semester upon approval of the majority of SAAC members.

5. No dues are required to be a member of SAAC.

6. In order to promote fairness and diversity:

“No person shall on the grounds of race, creed, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, handicap, Vietnam era veteran status, or such other factors that cannot be considered lawfully, be excluded from participation in, be denied that benefits of or be subject to discrimination under any program or activity within this organization.”

Executive Council
Executive Council will be comprised of a President, Vice President, and Secretary.

Executive Council will be nominated at the second to the last meeting and will be selected at the last SAAC meeting of the year.

Committee chairpersons can be appointed at the last meeting of the year or the first meeting of the academic year.

In the event of removal, resignation, or vacancy of the President, the Vice President will move into the President position, and the newly appointed President will appoint a new Vice President until the next scheduled official election.

In the event of removal, resignation, or vacancy of any officer or committee chair, the President will appoint a replacement until the next scheduled official election.

President

Presides over meetings

Serves as liaison to the athletic department

Functions as spokesperson from NSU to the community

Meets with Executive Council to set agenda for meetings

Vice President
Presides over meetings when the president is absent.

Oversees all standing committees and reports to executive council any relevant information.

Exercised all the functions of the office of the President in the absence of the President.

Secretary
Keeps written records of all NSU general meetings and committee meetings.

Publishes and distributes minutes of the meetings prior to the next meeting.

Meetings
There will be at least one meeting per month.

Meetings will be set for the semester, based upon athletic game schedules.

All meetings will follow Robert’s Rule of Order.

Voting
A simple majority of the voting membership of the SAAC shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business

Except as otherwise provided, assuming a quorum is present, majority vote shall be required for the adoption of any motion.

Removal
Violation of or disregard for any part of this constitution or the organization shall be grounds for removal charges against any of the elected officers.

The general membership shall vote on the removal resolution.

Removal shall be accomplished by a 2/3 majority of the members present.

Removal proceedings may be initiated by any voting member.

Succession
In the event of removal, resignation, or vacancy of any elected officer, a special election shall be held to fill that position.

Amendments
The constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the total membership and approval of the Athletics Director. The proposals of the amendment must be submitted to the membership at least one month prior to voting or at the previous meeting.

Any amendment(s) must be reviewed by the Student Association to become a part of the recognized student organization’s official constitution.
