Pre-NSU: Was named All-ESD Conference at the TE position in football for 2009…was named Academic All-State in football, basketball, and baseball as a senior…received an Academic Achievement Student of the Month award from Central HS…was named Rapid City Journal All-State in 2008, and All-Region Honorable Mention in 2009 as a pitcher…over the 2008 American Legion baseball season, he pitched 61.2 innings, had 55 strikeouts, a 9-1 record, two shut-outs, a 2.27 ERA, and held opposing hitters to a .210 batting average…during the 2008 Legion Class A State Tournament, he picked up wins over Yankton Post #12 and Rapid City Post #22…pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve a 2-1 lead over Mitchell Post #18 in the title game…as a senior, he pitched 26 innings, had 26 strikeouts, a 4-0 record, two shut-outs, a 1.88 ERA, and held opposing hitters to a .172 batting average…batted .512 (22-43), with a .553 OB%, and a .791 SLG% as a first baseman for the "Smitty's" in 2009.
