ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball program received a trio of pitching commitments in recent days. The latest group includes Kris Keating (Benson, Saskatchewan), Brandon Pokarney (Milwaukie, Ore.) and Robbie Rocamora (San Marcos, Calif.). All three will enroll in classes and join the Wolves for fall workouts at the start of the Fall 2010 semester.
Kris Keating 5-7 150 RHP Benson, Saskatchewan
Keating has been a three-sport athlete during all four years of high school participating in volleyball, curling, and baseball. As a curler, he was a two-time HS Provincial Boys Tournament participant. During his senior year of baseball, Kris pitched 43.2 innings with a 2.72 ERA.
Coach Matt Sisk on Keating: “Kris has a good arm with good command of three pitches. If he further develops his pitches and throws all of them for strikes, he will have a chance to help us right away.”
Brandon Pokarney 6-0 195 RHP Milwaukie, Oregon
Pokarney has been recovering from injury during the 2010 baseball season. During his 2009 season, he pitched 59 innings with a 2.61 ERA for his American Legion team. He has been named to the Honor Roll every year of high school and will graduate with honors. Pokarney is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
Coach Sisk on Pokarney: “I have met Brandon on several occasions, and I have found him to be a bright student of baseball as well as his academic interests. With his arm healthy now, I look for him to develop quickly in a college setting.”
Robbie Rocamora 5-11 205 RHP/3B San Marcos, California
Rocamora is a four-year letterman in baseball and a three-year letterman in football at Mission Hills HS. During his junior year of football, he was named Offensive Lineman of the Year and was a second team all-conference selection. As a junior baseball player, he was named as the team’s Pitcher of the Year, and again named to the second team all-conference squad. He pitched 65 innings his senior year with only 13 walks surrendered, and also batted .296 in 81 at-bats.
Coach Sisk on Rocamora: “Robbie is going to be a quality player in our system. He was relied upon heavily as a pitcher in high school, which will give him some much needed experience for the college transition. He also has a good right-handed swing with a chance to see time at 3rd base.”
