ABERDEEN, S.D. –
Northern State University senior Amanda Madden won the women’s weight throw while surpassing the NCAA automatic qualifying standard for the second time in as many tries on Thursday, providing the evening’s biggest highlight as part of the NSU-Jamestown College dual.  Despite that win – one of five total NSU victories in the women’s field events – the Jamestown women rallied to post 77.5 points and edge their Wolves counterparts by just seven points.

Madden bettered her already nation-leading mark in the weight throw – the first event of the night – with a lifetime best heave of 18.20 meters (59 feet, 8.50 inches).  NSU went 1-2-3 in that event, as Katie Smith finished second, while sophomore Melodi Boke was third.

Boke also gave the Wolves a strong performance in the shot put.  Her toss of 13.17 meters (43-2.50) was just three centimeters from matching the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in that event.

The NSU men also claimed wins in four of six field events en-route to an 88-60 win over the Jimmies, capping the day with an 8-second win over JC in the 4x400-meter relay.  Junior Calvin McGruder claimed two of those four wins in the field events, as he picked up wins in both the high and long jump events.

Thursday’s meet kicks off a string of four straight home weekends for the Wolves, who next host the NSU Multi-Events next Sunday and Monday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1.  The majority of the NSU squad will be in action next Saturday at the Concordia-Cobber Open.
