Athletes of the Week
Emily Becken
Women's Basketball
Emily  Becken notched her first double-double of the season with a 17-point, 11-assist effort in the Wolves' 76-65 win over the University of Mary.  Becken was one of four Wolves in double figures in scoring and one of three players to notch a double-double, marking the first time that has happened this season.  NSU has now won four straight games.

Jordan King
Men's Basketball
Jordan King (G, 6-0, 180, Jr., Arlington, S.D./Arlington HS) led an NSU comeback effort against the University of Mary with a career-high 16 points on Saturday despite playing just 17 minutes of the game.  King drained four of eight 3-point attempts, including several late treys to keep the Wolves in contention.  He was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while dishing out five assists and coming up with one of the team’s three steals.

ABERDEEN, S.D. –
Returning All-NSIC performer Kaylee McDonald scored twice while junior Maggie Fedor added a goal of her own as the Northern State University Wolves claimed a convincing 3-1 victory over the visiting University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Sunday afternoon at Jerde Field.  The non-conference victory was NSU’s first in-region victory and lifted the Wolves to 2-3 on the year.

The Lopers, competing in their fourth ever game, fell to 1-3 on the young season.

NSU wasted little time in taking control of the game, scoring just a minute and 35 seconds in to the contest.  McDonald picked up her own rebound shot off UNK goalkeeper Marissa Niday and found the back of the net with her second shot for her first goal of the year.

Both teams then played to a draw for the remainder of the half, but McDonald needed even less time in the second half to put the Wolves up by a 2-0 tally.  The sophomore forward scored at the 45:24 mark on a nearly identical play, picking up her own rebound shot off Niday’s hands and sticking the ball back in the goal.

The Wolves tacked on their third and final goal of the day almost immediately.  Fedor, a 2-time All-Region performer, blasted home an unassisted goal less than a minute later for her second goal of the year.

Leading by the 3-0 cushion, the Wolves briefly let their guard down just minutes later, scoring an own goal to trim their lead to 3-1.  That, however, would be as close as the Lopers would get, as the clock wound down on any comeback attempts.

The Wolves, led by nine shots from Fedor and another eight from McDonald, notched a 31-7 edge in shots.  McDonald and Fedor also combined for nine of the team’s 13 shots on goal, while the NSU defense held the Lopers to just two shots on goal, both of which were intercepted by junior goaltender Dee Wood.

The win gives the Wolves a 2-0 record on the weekend.  NSU will go for a perfect homestand on Wednesday as they play host to Dakota Wesleyan University in a 5 p.m. match at Jerde Field.
