ABERDEEN, S.D. –
Northern State University claimed victory in the men’s race, while the University of Mary women claimed the first race of the day as the Wolves played host to the season-opening NSU Alumni Open on Friday.  The race, which featured several NSU alumni runners, was held at Parkview Nursery.

U-Mary claimed the top two individual spots in the 6K men’s race as Eamin Entwisle and Taylor Thompson finished 1-2, but the Wolves put six of their seven runners ahead of the Marauders’ third scorer.  Junior John Rawerts was the top finisher for the Wolves, claiming third place with a time of 19:3350.  He was followed closely by junior Josh Schmeichel (19:41.20) and sophomore Richard Keroack (19:43.10).

Freshmen Jake Arechigo and Jayce Seelig claimed the seventh and eights spots, respectively, in their collegiate debuts with times of 20:18.10 and 20:41.30.  Sophomore Brock Rose also cracked the top 10 with a ninth place finish in 20:53.20.

Sophomore Matt Peterson rounded out the Wolves contingent, finishing in 21:22.50, good for 14th place.

In the women’s race, the Marauder women claimed the top five scoring spots, but that did not stop some solid performances from the Wolves’ squad.  Junior Kari Linneman led the way for the Wolves with an eighth place finish in a time of 15:49.90 over the 4K course.  Freshman Jessica Brandli was just behind in ninth with a time of 16:00.30.

NSU also claimed places 11-16 with performances from Krystal Hughes (16:50.80), Toni Fritz (17:27.20), Andrea Sjomeling (17:45.10), Brittany Olfert (17:51.40) and Cherry Kolb (18:25.60).

Friday’s course was held at a new location, run partially on private property with new trails through City of Aberdeen property incorporated.
