Athletes of the Week
Emily Becken
Women's Basketball
Emily  Becken notched her first double-double of the season with a 17-point, 11-assist effort in the Wolves' 76-65 win over the University of Mary.  Becken was one of four Wolves in double figures in scoring and one of three players to notch a double-double, marking the first time that has happened this season.  NSU has now won four straight games.

Jordan King
Men's Basketball
Jordan King (G, 6-0, 180, Jr., Arlington, S.D./Arlington HS) led an NSU comeback effort against the University of Mary with a career-high 16 points on Saturday despite playing just 17 minutes of the game.  King drained four of eight 3-point attempts, including several late treys to keep the Wolves in contention.  He was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line while dishing out five assists and coming up with one of the team’s three steals.

Wolves battle to 1-1 split
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – One day after recording the program’s first ever shutout, the Northern State University tennis squad was back on the courts on Saturday, this time recording their second win in as many days while going 1-1 on the day.

The Wolves opened the day with a 5-0 loss to Division I North Dakota in an abbreviated format match.  Each player took part in just one match – either singles or doubles, but not both.

“Even though we lost all of our matches,” said head coach Jessie Daw, “we learned a lot by taking on this experienced and talented team.”

The Wolves then faced off against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe University of Mary in the afternoon matchup.  NSU started off the competition with three tight doubles wins, including a come-from-behind victory by Abbey Johnson and Kelsey Lonning in No. 1 doubles.  The pair found themselves down 6-1 early on in the match, but came back to force a tie-breaker, and eventually claimed the 9-8 (7-5) win.

“This was a first for us in our new program, as it was the first time that we had tight matches down the line and then really dug deep to get the wins,” said Daw, who also noted that the confidence from the doubles wins carried over into the singles matches.

“We grew a lot in this match,” said Daw.  “Hopefully this experience will prove to be permanent in our development as mature players.”
