ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University head football coach Tom Dosch has announced the addition of two new members to the Wolves’ coaching staff. Mark Martin and Austin Flyger have joined Dosch on campus and begin their duties immediately.
“I’m very excited to announce the addition of Mark and Austin to the staff,” said Dosch. “Both coaches bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the table, and they’re both quite familiar with the conference having coached and/or played on and against teams in the NSIC.”
Martin takes over as the offensive coordinator after spending the last six years at that position at Jamestown College. He joined the Jimmies’ staff in 2003 as the offensive line coach and was given the offensive coordinator duties in 2004, the same season that Dosch came aboard as the head coach for Jamestown. In addition to his duties as offensive coordinator, he also coached the quarterbacks and running backs.
Under Martin’s direction, the Jimmie offense has been at or near the top of the Dakota Athletic Conference in most offensive categories. The Jimmies have led the DAC in scoring and total offense the past three seasons and have boasted 12 All-Conference, two NAIA All-Americans, and two conference MVP's in that time. They also ranked in the top-10 in the NAIA nation in total offense, passing offense and first downs per game in 2008.
Martin is no stranger to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Before joining the Jimmies, he spent three seasons coaching the tight ends, offensive line and quarterbacks at St. Cloud State University.
Martin played collegiately at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He has a bachelors degree in social studies and secondary education from St. Cloud State University ('01) and is working on a master's degree in sports management at St. Cloud State University.
Flyger joins the Wolves as the defensive line coach after two seasons on staff at Southern Illinois, where he was also in charge of the defensive line. He joined the Salukis after one season at the University of North Dakota, where he also worked primarily with the defensive line.
Also no stranger to the NSIC, Flyger is a former stand-out player at Augustana from 2000-2003. There, he earned All-North Central Conference honors and was named the league's most valuable defensive lineman as a senior in 2003. Flyger went on to play three seasons with the Sioux Falls Storm of the United Indoor Football League before embarking on a coaching career.
Flyger has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Augustana and is working towards his master’s degree in sports management from SIU.
“Mark and Austin are familiar with the region as both a recruiter and a coach,” added Dosch. “We’re excited to get in the mix and get the ball rolling in the recruiting process.”
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
