ABERDEEN, S.D. – Three Northern State University track and field athletes exceeded either the NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying standards with their performances at Thursday’s intra-squad meet. All three efforts, which will not be accepted by the NCAA as qualifying marks due to the intra-squad nature of the event, came in the field events.
Newcomer Trever Mau provided the night’s first highlight when he set a new Barnett Center and school record in the long jump with a leap of 7.43 meters (24 feet, 4 ½ inches). Junior Andrew Rose followed with what would have been a provisional qualifying height of 2.05 meters (6-8.75) in the high jump.
Returning All-American and 2-time 2009 national runner-up Amanda Madden capped the evening with a toss of 18.01 meters (59-1.25) in the weight throw. That effort was just nine centimeters off her previous best and current school record of 18.10 meters (59-4.75), set at last season’s national indoor meet.
