Wolves Baseball Announces 2009-10 Recruits
Bookmark and Share
Northern State head baseball coach Mark Gulseth has announced his recruiting class for the 2009-10 season. The eight new faces are Bryce Anglin (Aberdeen, S.D.), Ben Buckingham (Sheridan, Wyo.), Charlie Dunnick (Windom, Minn.), Evan Jordre (Aberdeen, S.D.), Thane Lees (Rapid City, S.D.), Taylor Morsching (Aberdeen, S.D.) Kyle Nemec (Vermillion, S.D.), and Brad Rintoul (Medicine Hat, Alta.).

Bryce Anglin (6'1, 185) played the outfield for Coach Gulseth's Aberdeen Smitty's. Anglin has some pop in his right-handed swing and will look to contribute offensively in the 2010 season. Coach Gulseth on Bryce: "Bryce is an aggressive, hard hitting outfielder that has developed a bit of power over the last couple years. He gets great reads on balls to the outfield and has really turned into a solid defensive player. Bryce is a very smart baseball player that really understands the game."
Ben Buckingham (6'1, 190) will be competing for time on the mound this spring. He earned 3 letters in basketball at Big Horn HS, and was named All-State in baseball his senior year. Ben is also a talented jazz musician. Coach G. on Ben: "Right hand pitcher that will compete for a spot in the starting rotation as a true freshman. Great pitching demeanor and very good command of all of his pitches."
Charlie Dunnick (5'8, 170) is a versatile player that will compete at pitcher and shortstop. He played well enough his senior year at Windom Area HS to earn All-Section, All-Conference, and All-State awards in baseball. Coach G. on Charlie: "Will compete for a spot in the starting rotation. Hard throwing right hand pitcher that also has the ability to play shortstop."
Evan Jordre (6'0, 175) will be joining the Wolves with two other Aberdeen recruits in the 2009-10 class. Jordre plays the 3rd base position, and was named an All-Conference utility player in baseball as a senior. Coach G. on Evan: "Extremely versatile, can play any infield position and can also catch. Will compete for time at 3rd base. Evan is a line drive hitter with gap potential and is very strong defensively."
Thane Lees (5'11, 175) will look to earn some innings on the mound for the Wolves in 2010. He is right-handed pitcher out of Rapid City Stevens HS, where he was a three-sport athlete. Pitching Coach Sisk on Thane: "Lees will be in the mix with the rest of the pitching staff in 2010. Because he is not overpowering, Thane will have to rely on good location and movement of his pitches. If he hits his spots consistently, he will have a chance to help our staff."
Taylor Morsching (6'6, 220) joins the Wolves pitching staff for the upcoming 2010 season. He was a three-sport athlete in baseball, basketball and football at Aberdeen Central HS. He also contributed as a pitcher and 1st baseman for the Aberdeen Smitty's baseball club and received several awards over his American Legion career. Morsching maintained a 3.9 GPA in high school. Coach G. on Taylor: "Right hand pitcher that will compete for a spot in the starting rotation. His 6'6" frame can be rather imposing for hitters. Taylor is a very smart pitcher that has the ability to overpower hitters and take control of the game."
Kyle Nemec (6'2, 220) joins the Wolves as a pitcher and a corner infielder. He was an All-State performer at 1st base, and pitched well enough to earn a 10-0 record his senior year of American Legion baseball. Coach G. on Kyle: "Left hand hitter and throws right- has the ability to play the corner infield positions and pitch, will likely see time at all 3 spots. Kyle is very strong and an extremely hard worker."
Brad Rintoul (5'11, 185) will look to help the Wolves defensively at the catcher position. He bats from the left side, with some foot speed, and could become a key offensive contributor as a junior in 2010. He is a transfer from Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. Coach Sisk on Brad: "Rintoul is an athletic catcher that moves well and gives 100% effort in practice. He has the ability to shut down the opponents' running game from behind the plate."
The Wolves baseball team will be very young in the 2010 season, with 22 underclassmen compared to 12 upperclassmen (five seniors). Despite their inexperience, the Wolves are looking to rebound after a difficult, injury-plagued 2009 season. The Wolves first game is February 23, 2010, in the Metrodome vs. Bemidji State.
