Wolves Take Part in Red Ribbon Week

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Members of Northern State’s various athletic teams spent their Tuesday noon hour at the O.M. Tiffany Elementary School in Aberdeen as part of the school’s Red Ribbon Week festivities.

Tuesday was their “Sports Theme” day, so several Northern State athletes spent their time at recess playing four square, football, and shooting hoops with the youngsters.

Gayle Neuhardt, O.M. Tiffany’s computer lab supervisor, has her own thoughts about what the visit means to the children.

“They love them.  They love it when they come and play with them.  This is their dream…to play football with one of the Northern players.”

Northern State junior linebacker Chris Hurd, one of the members of NSU’s football team to offer his time at the school, explained why it was good for both the kids and the players.

“It’s awesome.  It’s always good to come out here and play with the little kids because we were all this age once.  They look up to us, and they’re having a lot of fun getting our autographs.  It takes us back to when we were that age.”

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
