Box Score

ABERDEEN, S.D. -
After giving up a pair of first-half goals to the visiting Mesa State College Mavericks, the Northern State University women's soccer team ran out of time in a second-half comeback effort, falling 2-1 to the Mavericks in an in-region contest.  The loss drops the Wolves to an even 2-2 on the season, while MSC remains undefeated at 3-0.

Sherilyn Stoffel scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute, taking a Daniela Ramirez pass from the right side and blasting a shot past NSU goaltender Dee Wood.  Ramirez then put the Mavericks up 2-0 in the 37th minute when she dribbled through the defense and put a high, arching shot over the head of Wood and into the net.

The second half saw a role-reversal of sorts, as the Wolves outshot the Mavericks by a 9-3 count, including a Kati Bronson shot from close range that found the net and cut the gap to 2-1 with just under 30 minutes left to play in the game.  Summer Swan was credited with the assist on the play.

Bronson threatened again in the 80th minute when a Swan shot drew the MSC goalie away from the net, but Bronson's rebound shot was knocked away by a Maverick defender.

The Mavericks would hold the Wolves without a shot for the remainder of the game.

From all appearances, NSU had the upper hand in nearly every statistical category, holding a 17-7 advantage in shots and a lopsided 12-2 count in corner kicks.  Both teams were whistled for 11 fouls, while MSC racked up nine offsides violations.

The Wolves will now embark on a three-week road swing, beginning next Saturday, Sept. 13, when they take on Mount Marty College in Yankton.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
