ABERDEEN, S.D. - Aberdeen, S.D. – It was a near perfect day for racing Friday afternoon at Lee Park Golf Course, and Northern State University junior
Josh Schmeichel took advantage as he finished fifth overall in the 48th Annual Roe Granger meet, leading the Wolves to a second place team finish in the process.
Unattached runner Kyle Eckhoff was the overall winner, clocking in at 26 minutes, 26 seconds. Adam Kne of MSU Moorhead was the top attached finisher of the race. Kne finished in 26:41.
MSU Moorhead finished with 44 team points, narrowly edging the Wolves’ 45 points for the team title. University of Mary well back in third place with 73 points, while Division I University of North Dakota was fourth with 86 points. Dakota State University (89) and Presentation (185) rounded out the team standings.
Schmeichel covered the 8K course in 26:59, good for three team points. Freshman
Richard Keroack, who won the NSU Open last weekend in his first ever collegiate competition, was seventh overall and fifth in the team standings with a time of 27:07.
Senior
Danny Scott also finished in the top ten, taking the tenth overall spot and seven team points with his time of 27:20, while sophomore
John Rawerts just missed a top 10 finish. Rawerts’ time of 17:35 was good for twelfth overall and nine team points for the Wolves.
Freshman
Brock Rose rounded out NSU’s team score with a 24th overall finish. The true freshman’s time of 29:17 was good for 21 team points.

Tim Baustain completed NSU’s team contingent with 26th and 38th place finishes, respectively.
On the women’s side, sophomore
Kari Linneman led an 8-person NSU squad that finished tied for fifth in the team standings. Linneman was the 17th overall finisher, covering the 6K course in 24:50. Sophomore
Toni Fritz was just two places behind her, taking 19th with a time of 25:06.
Senior
Danielle Nikolas was 27th with her time of 25:53, while senior
Valerie Moore and freshman
Paige Paulson rounded out NSU’s scoring, finishing 38th and 39th, respectively. Accounting for unattached runners and pushers, the pair picked up 35 and 36 points, respectively. Moore was clocked in 27:48, while Paulson finished with a time of 27:53.
Freshmen
Michelle Nikolas (41st; 28:05),
Briana Mann (44th; 28:44) and
Cherry Kolb (48th; 29:40) rounded out the NSU contingent.
MSU Moorhead again took home a share of the team title, sharing that honor with North Dakota. Both teams finished with 36 points. Jamestown College (N.D.) was third with 94 points, while Mary was fourth with 101.
The Wolves will be back in action on Sept. 27 when they travel to St. Paul, Minn. for the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational.
