ABERDEEN, S.D. - 2008 Northern State graduate and former Wolves baseball standout, Adam Kampsen, has signed a contract to play baseball professionally for the Evansville Otters in Evansville, Ind.

The Evansville Otters are a member of the Frontier League of the Independent Professional Baseball Federation (IPBF). Formed in 1992-93, the IPBF was founded to bring professional baseball to areas that would not otherwise have a chance of affiliated baseball coming to their communities. Over 1.5 million fans attend games of the 12-team league every season, and more than 40 Evansville Otters have gone on to play Major League Baseball.

Kampsen's June 13 signing puts him on the active roster for the Otters, who are 14-10 on the year. Kampsen came to Northern State in 2004-05 from Paynesville, Minn.  As an infielder for the Wolves, he played in 181 games and had a career batting average of .391. He knocked out 227 hits, including 45 homeruns, and drove in 174 RBI's.

Kampsen was a three-time All-NSIC First Team member and was named NSIC Preseason Player of the Year his junior and senior seasons. Kampsen received numerous All-Region bids and was a statistical league leader throughout his career.  In 2008, Kampsen recorded a .435 batting average, which was second in the NSIC, and led the nation in slugging percentage with a mark of 0.968.  He was named the NSIC's Co-Player of the Year.
