Wolves Finish Regular Season With NSIC Win
Northern tops U-Mary 33-12

FULL SCORECARD

BISMARCK, N.D. - Northern State's wrestling team wrapped up their regular season schedule with a 33-12 win over the University of Mary on Wednesday evening.  The win sets NSU's record at 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC, giving them a second place finish in the conference.  The Wolves head to the North Regional on Sunday, March 2 in Mankato, Minn.

The Wolves jumped out to a 24-0 lead over the Marauders as Rick Schiley earned a 19-3 technical fall over Cody Schmidt at 133 pounds.  Ryan Larsen was knotted up with Shawn Sneva in the 149-lb. class after one period.  He went on to win a 14-6 major decision which, after two open weight classes from the Marauders at 125-lb. and 141-lb., gave the Wolves the heavy edge.

Dustin Bonn increased the lead to 24-0 with a 11-7 win over Devin Nagel.  Bonn broke the match open with a second period reversal and three-point takedown.  U-Mary took the decision at 165-lb. as Joey Irmen defeated Chris Hunt 9-4.  Despite falling behind 5-0 early on, Hunt battled and matched Irmen point for point for the remainder of the match.

Donnie Bowden
then got the Wolves back in the win column, using a second period reversal and nearfall to break a scoreless first period and gain a 5-0 lead.  He took the decision 8-2, putting NSU up 27-3.

Robb Grussing fell behind UM's Kurt Wiedrich in the first period and ultimately fell by a score of 3-6.  Todd Naasz improved to 18-5 on the season by pinning Dusty Vliem at the 2:39 mark of the first period.  The Marauders won the final match of the evening, getting a pinfall from Jesse Laber over NSU's Jared Little.  The six points earned from the pin doubled U-Mary's score to their final mark of 12.

The Marauders are 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC.
